The Big Day

The Big Day is here this is something I am so Happy to see come to life the last few hours I have been busy checking out our facebook page and ooOOOoooing and Aweeeeing over the photos people are sharing.

My SideKick PurlGurl A and I hit the streets last night early as we had to have our kids in bed at a decent time and nobody to watch them :( But we made do and I think we Rock it.  We did a number of installations last night including one at at building that has a fence around because some of the bricks on the front have fallen down.  We also did a really fun Bus Stop Bench Cozy.  Some Monster Feet on some parking meters in front of City Hall here in Lethbridge.  We did a Winged Hearts @ my sons school which was lots of fun.  and one pole cozy at a Bus Stop in my neighborhood .  I am getting organized this morning to go out and do a few more things but this time with my husband and my two boys.  In the mean time enjoy what I have posted here.

The Birth of an Idea

I had no idea when I came up with the idea for International Yarnbombing Day that it would have gotten this big.
I figures a few hundred Canadians and Americans would be participating but I had no idea that I would have people from all over the World  including countries like Iceland, Norway, Egypt, Israel, Germany and Australia.
Our community has grown so much in the last few months I think its Great this is what I envisioned when I came up with the idea for our Big Day.  We have also gotten a big of media attention which I am surprised at was well as very pleased with.   I don't know what it is but I seem to get my best ideas at 3AM in the morning when I can't sleep.  Recently when I was doing an interview about yarnbombing and International Yarnbombing Day I was asked how I will measure the success of IYBD?  My Answer was if one act of yarnbombing makes someone smile or brightens someones day when they look at it then what WE as a community have done on ONE DAY in a year would make this event a success.  I may have picked the date but the commnity that we are part of are really the ones who helped create this idea and so I must thank them for that.  So thank you Twilight Taggers, JafaGirls, Magda Sayeg, Leanne Prain, Mandy Moore, Deadly Knit Shade and the Knit the City Crew  and many many others thank you for being my inspration.  Now lets get out there and show the World some YARN LOVE!!!!

Welcome

Welcome to International Yarn Bombing Day! This year it will be happening on June 11, 2011. IYBD was created by Joann Matvichuk from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Knitting and crocheting is a great hobby of hers and yarn bombing is always fun. Everyone who has yarn bombed in the past knows that some thing as simple as a knit/crocheted flower can brighten someones day. So lets get together 'globally' and brighten many peoples days. ...oh and did I mention its fun...!!!

So far people from around the global have confirmed they want to participate. Knitters/crocheters from Canada, USA,Germany, Italy, France, England, and India have all said they are IN!...Come join us.

Got bomb pics you would like to share? send them to purlgurls@gmail.com
