The Birth of an Idea

I had no idea when I came up with the idea for International Yarnbombing Day that it would have gotten this big.
I figures a few hundred Canadians and Americans would be participating but I had no idea that I would have people from all over the World  including countries like Iceland, Norway, Egypt, Israel, Germany and Australia.
Our community has grown so much in the last few months I think its Great this is what I envisioned when I came up with the idea for our Big Day.  We have also gotten a big of media attention which I am surprised at was well as very pleased with.   I don't know what it is but I seem to get my best ideas at 3AM in the morning when I can't sleep.  Recently when I was doing an interview about yarnbombing and International Yarnbombing Day I was asked how I will measure the success of IYBD?  My Answer was if one act of yarnbombing makes someone smile or brightens someones day when they look at it then what WE as a community have done on ONE DAY in a year would make this event a success.  I may have picked the date but the commnity that we are part of are really the ones who helped create this idea and so I must thank them for that.  So thank you Twilight Taggers, JafaGirls, Magda Sayeg, Leanne Prain, Mandy Moore, Deadly Knit Shade and the Knit the City Crew  and many many others thank you for being my inspration.  Now lets get out there and show the World some YARN LOVE!!!!

  8. thanks for your great idea. I was so happy to add a few meters of knitting to our huge installation in Melbourne at Federation Square. Right now I'm knitting squares for Charity blankets. To all you yarnbombers out there, enjoy the fun of YB and please give a thought to the cold and homeless too, drop a blanket or laprug off to a charity too♥

  9. I am so excited by this, I'm handing out Lei's and flowers in my meetings in the South Island with strict instructions to place them somewhere fab on Saturady and send me a photo. I'm going to be on a plane so I've thought about cosies for the arm rests, I'll see how many I can make by then :-)
